Vacation? What’s a Vacation?
One of the hazards to running your own company is the loss of personal time. Finding time to do the little things in life such as sleeping, weekend getaways and doing my taxes seem to eaten up by the rigors or running my own business.
Not this weekend.
After 3 years I am finally taking a real break. No laptop, errands or cell phone (well maybe a little cell phone, I do need to be semi-accessible, so I guess I will settle for setting the ringer on low…lol)
I am taking my family up into the Adirondacks for four days of camping and general laziness. I envision boating, fishing and tons of beach lounging. I will post some wilderness shots and video sometime next week.
Cheers!
Linksys WRT54GS, A Trojan Horse In Disguise?
After four years of dedicated servitude my wireless router decided to go on a permanent vacation with little or no warning. Considering I have a degree in IT you would think that I would have a spare router (as almost all good geeks do), a plan perhaps or at the very least an extra cat-6 cable to run straight into the cable modem that was longer than three feet in length.
Unfortunately, all I had was a busted router.
A few hours later I find myself wandering through a local PC store looking at routers. Since my home office & network is pretty straightforward I decided to pick up a halfway decent Linksys WRT54GS for roughly $80 dollars. Upon returning home I swapped my permanently defunct router out for my new Linksys and popped the CD into my PC to install the drivers and what not.
Suddenly my anti-virus/stop evil doers software by Nod32 by Eset went crazy. Not a good start. Read more
One Great Voyage, The LG Voyager
After two years, two long years of waiting. Verizon Wireless has finally released a mobile device with a browser that was unsullied by their atrocious branding and lack of features. I recently purchased the Voyager by LG Electronics and I must say although I don’t believe it is the iPhone killer it was touted to be, it is an excellent phone with a host of great features that seems quite durable and well made. I found the HTML browser to be quite snappy with a decent rendering time and the text zoom feature worked surprisingly well. The phones design is very attractive, although I think the icons are not as sweet looking as the iPhones they are quite nice looking. The speaker phone has amazing clarity and volume(The best I have heard yet actually) and I love the spacing of the QWERTY keyboard keys. Besides the browser, I think my my favorite feature is the organization of the contact book, it is much improved and very intuitive. Read more
